3 new English champions back at HKA

BillyJoe, had a tough first fight of the day with a game lad in the finals, Billyjoe just wasn’t on his game yesterday, tried his hardest but couldn’t quite get the win in a split decision. This was only BillyJoes third fight in 3 months and he learns with every experience and will come back even stronger next time.

Max Kemps first fight was against the lad who went on to the finals, (A black belt with over 20 fights, including knocking out men in first rounds) It was a VERY close fight and not bad for Max as he’s been training about 8 weeks and was his first ever fight.

Jordan Hiesley White, had his first fight for us, again not been training long at all and fancied a go, His guard was unbreakable and didn’t stop walking forwards, but in this sport we need to throw shots back ;), Incredible show of strength and grit, Not taking the win but a great leaning curve and first battle for us at HKA.

Callum Helsdown after losing in the finals last year was keen to get it back this time, having to move up to the next weight category, he knew he had to work for this, Ironically matched against a lad from FCA (same as last year) it was a great fight, tough and toe to toe for 3 rounds, both lads wanted it. At the final bell a split decision! Callum crowned the IKF English champion.

After George French winning last year he was keen to prove he’s still champ, After winning his way through to the final, sadly not how we wanted, but matched against stable mate Dan brown, They weren’t given team orders! Just have a great fight and put on a show! Both lads were riddled with a chest infection, put on a GREAT performance of KICKBOXING, another close fight, Dan put up a great fight but at the final bell it was Georges hand that was raised for the belt.

Ollie Lockwood in only his third battle got himself into the final and lost in a split decision bloody war. Both lads working really hard and it could of gone either way, Ollie was the stronger fighter always going forwards, but just not enough kicks.

Last up Jake Wilard in the final vs stable mate Leyton, This is always hard for us to judge corner and watch from the side lines for me and Jenny, both are great lads, train hard, very respectful and a credit to the gym, like George and Dan, team orders were have a battle, enjoy it! Give the crowd the final they deserve. A very very close fight, I told Jake to leave his kit on just in case an extra round was needed. But after the third bell Jake was crowned the IKF English champion, that 3 straights wins for this young lad, not bad for someone who could only kick a ball 6 months ago. 😉

Instructor Carl Denne said “This year we took up a larger team, and the thing with an “open” tournaments is “any” can enter, from complete novices up to great champions, TBF we took mainly novices as they wanted to have a go, Win or Learn it was all a great day out, lots learnt, some great challenges taken, and 3 more champions in the gym, I’m personally very proud of the team and look forward to 2018…. “
